Best phones under Rs 25,000 in India for September 2021

India has always had great budget smartphone options around the Rs 20,000 mark. However, until recently, the segment above it didn’t have a lot of exciting options. It primarily included mid-rangers and affordable flagships and not products dedicated to this segment.

However, the Indian smartphone market showed its agility and went on to produce multiple offerings which now make this an extremely exciting segment. The OnePlus Nord was the first phone after the Redmi K20 series that created the buzz in Rs 25,000 segment. Later on, Xiaomi started off with the Mi 10i, and fast forward to 2021, we had quite a few exciting offerings from other brands such as Realme, Redmi, Moto as well.  iQoo also makes it into the current list thanks to the aggressive pricing.

They offer the best bits from flagships without breaking the bank. Phones in this segment typically offer reliable performance and gaming, multiple cameras for versatile implementation, fast charging, AMOLED panels, etc. We’re also starting to see high refresh rate displays finally make an appearance in this segment. With so many improvements in the segment, it will only get hard to differentiate these with flagship phones going further.

The current list of best smartphones under Rs 25,000 consists of eight smartphones and the list is topped by OnePlus Nord CE, followed closely by the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max purely because of the value for money proposition it brings to the table. This is followed by the battery monster which also turned out to be an excellent all-rounder, the Galaxy M51. The rest of the list includes smartphones Poco's new X3 Pro with a flagship chipset, and Realme 8 Pro. The list ends with Moto's cheapest 5G phone, the Moto G 5G.

In case you can’t wait any longer, here are the best phones under Rs 25,000 in India worth splurging on.

Moto Edge 20 Fusion

A worthy Fusion

Display: 6.7-inch FHD+, 90Hz, 10-bit AMOLED | Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 800U | RAM: 6/8GB | Storage: 128GB | Rear camera: 108+8+2MP | Front camera: 32MP | Battery: 5,000mAh, 30W | Weight: 185g | Thickness: 8.25mm

Best in class display
Excellent software experience
Good battery life
Bland design
Bulky

The Moto Edge 20 Fusion is a competitive mid-range device as it performs well in all departments. The star of the show here is the 10-bit AMOLED display which is the best in the segment. Also, the device brings a clean software experience with useful features. However, the phone might be bulky for many people.

The device is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G processor 一 a capable mid-range performer with support for 13 5G bands. The Moto Edge 20 Fusion is the clean Android experience it offers. Running on Android 11 out of the box, the device comes with less than 40 pre-installed apps and also offers a bunch of nifty customization options. While the phone misses out on a stereo speaker setup, it does offer a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Moto Edge 20 Fusion sports a large 6.7-inch Full HD+ resolution display and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to the 90Hz refresh rate, scrolling through the UI feels smooth and fluid. The colours are punchy and have the right amount of contrast. This is also the best in the segment. The camera performance seems to be decent and offers plenty of details and colours. The large 5,000mAh battery can easily last for a day.

Less successor, more success extender

Display: 6.44-inch FHD+, 90Hz | Processor: Snapdragon 750G | RAM: 6/8/12GB | Storage: 128/256GB | Rear camera: 64+8+2MP | Front camera: 16MP | Battery: 4,500mAh, 30W | Weight: 170g | Thickness: 7.9mm

Battery life
Great in the hand
Software experience
No Alert slider
No IP rating
Basic camera performance

The newest arrival from OnePlus, the OnePlus Nord CE is the company’s second mid-range phone after the OnePlus Nord. The Nord CE is for those who were waiting for a cheaper OnePlus smartphone. It decent specifications and a great software experience at an affordable price. As with most OnePlus devices, the cameras are not the best and it even misses out on a few staples like alter the slider and glass back.

On the bright side, you are getting a good 6.43-inch Full HD+ 90Hz AMOLED display with an excellent in-hand feel, thanks to its lightweight design and slim profile. OnePlus Nord CE continues to offer the classic OnePlus experience we’ve all grown to love — a clean software skin that is always responsive, a minimalist design. The performance is decent enough to carry out most tasks including while the battery life is one area where the OnePlus Nord CE outperforms the competition.

Display: 6.67inch FHD+ AMOLED, 120Hz | Processor: Snapdragon 732G | RAM: 6/8GB | Storage: 64/128GB | Rear camera: 108+8+5+2MP | Front camera: 16MP | Battery: 5,020mAh, 33W fast charging

Lovely 120Hz AMOLED display
Reliable battery life
Great cameras
Stereo speakers
Relatively slow charging
Inconsistent secondary camera
No 5G

Xiaomi India came out with all guns blazing with the new Redmi Note 10 series 一 the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max is the most premium one of the trio in the series. Calling the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max an upgrade would be an understatement. It brings competitive features such as an AMOLED display with a high 120Hz refresh rate, a 108MP quad-camera stack, great battery life and more, in a package that is literally and figuratively easy on the pocket, making it our new best phone under Rs 20,000 as well as under Rs 25,000 in India.

Our personal favourite feature of the phone is the 5MP macro camera which actually works and delivers incredible pictures. While the phone lacks 5G capabilities, the chipset performs reasonably well for most day to day tasks. It’s also well-tuned to be efficient, giving the phone excellent battery life that will easily last you through the day.

In a nutshell, we have very little to complain about with the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max. And looking at the asking price for the said features, it is currently our top recommendation right now.

Poco X3 Pro is a performance-centric device with impressive specs and an even more impressive price. The Poco X3 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 860 chipset, which is the only Snapdragon 8 series phone under Rs 25,00 at the launch. Apart from a powerful SoC in the heart, the device also comes with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ 120Hz LCD display. The dynamic switch features will switch between 50Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz automatically depending on the content playing on the screen. It comes with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Smooth performance
Good display

Ample 5G band support
Doesn’t feel premium
Not-so-fast charging

Realme X7 Max is India’s first phone with the Dimensity 1200 processor 一 the star of the show. The processor performs really well in terms of day to day as well as gaming. While the device looks fairly good and is ergonomic, we did not like the in-hand feel of the device, especially the matte finish part on the Silver variant.

Apart from that, Realme ticks all the right boxes. For visuals, you get a 6.43-inch Full HD+ Samsung Super AMOLED display and a 120Hz screen refresh rate. The Realme X7 Max comes with a 64MP Sony IMX682 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens. Selfies are handled by a 16MP selfie shooter on the front. The pictures captured from the primary camera are by default at 16MP and they do not disappoint for the most part. You get well-detailed images with good dynamic range and saturation levels.

Further, the Realme X7 Max runs on Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 which brings many new features as well as customization options. It is backed by a 4,500mAh battery with a 50W charger. You also get a dual stereo speaker and 3.5mm headphone jack with Hi-Res audio support.
