Apple Wonderlust 2023: iPhone 15 Pro will be 10% lighter but come with a long battery life

Apple is all set to unveil the iPhone 15 Pro at its upcoming Wonderlust event in September, and there are some exciting updates expected.

According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, one notable change is the shift from stainless steel to titanium for the sides of the new chassis, resulting in a lighter overall weight and a sleek appearance.

Reportedly, the iPhone 15 Pro models will be approximately 10 per cent lighter than their predecessors. Remarkably, though this reduction in weight won’t compromise battery life, thanks to the efficiency enhancements brought by the new A17 chip.

Over the past few years, iPhones have become thicker and heavier to accommodate larger batteries, but this upcoming release appears to buck that trend. While the thickness may not change significantly, the 10 per cent weight reduction is noteworthy. Moreover, the A17 chip’s 3-nanometer production process is expected to contribute to extended battery life.

According to Bloomberg, the higher-end iPhone models will maintain a performance advantage, a strategy Apple has followed in recent years. The iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a faster A17 chip and more RAM. However, the most significant improvement is expected to be in battery life. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will retain the slower A16 chip from last year’s Pro models.

This means Apple is likely to promote a few extra hours of battery life for the iPhone 15 Pro compared to the previous generation. The current iPhone 14 Pro is rated for up to 23 hours of video playback, but real-world usage often falls short of this maximum. Some users have expressed concerns about the iPhone 14 series having worse battery life compared to earlier iterations, so the anticipated improvements in the iPhone 15 Pro’s battery life will be welcomed.

Notably, as was the case last year, the new A17 chip will be exclusive to the Pro models. The base model iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will continue using the A16 chip from the previous year.
